Islamabad – In a decisive move, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has firmly declined the proposition to defer the eagerly anticipated general elections slated for February 8, according to well-placed sources on Monday.

Sources reveal that the Commission has formally conveyed its resolute decision to the Senate Secretariat, underscoring the paramount importance of ensuring a secure electoral process. The Commission issued detailed instructions to caretaker governments to guarantee the safety and integrity of the upcoming elections.

Despite the Commission’s unwavering stance, the Supreme Court remains unwavering in its commitment to proceeding with the scheduled elections on February 8th.

The Commission, citing the historical precedence of successfully conducting general and local government elections during the winter season, deems it unfeasible to postpone the upcoming elections to 2024 at this juncture.

In a related development, Senator Dilawar Khan initiated the resolution for a delay in general elections on January 5th, securing unanimous approval with the presence of 14 senators. This pivotal decision gained further momentum as two additional resolutions were presented to the Senate, advocating for a postponement of the elections.
