Dubai, the city of superlatives and home to the ‘s largest tower, now boasts the world’s deepest pool, replete with a “sunken city” for divers to discover.

Deep Dive Dubai, which launched on Wednesday but was initially by invitation only, claims itself on being “the only diving facility in the world” where you can sink down 60 metres (nearly 200 feet), 15 metres deeper than any other pool, according to Guinness World Records, which verified to AFP.

It holds 14.6 million litres (3.8 million gallons) of freshwater, which is enough to fill six Olympic-size swimming pools.

Divers can also play table football and other activities at the depths, explore an “abandoned underground city,” or simply bask in the scenery as they descend, guided by lights and ambient music.

For pleasure and security, the pool is outfitted with more than 50 camera systems.

A one-hour dive charges are between $135 and $410, and Deep Dive promises to officially open for the general public soon.

Deep Dive Dubai’s director Jarrod Jablonski, an expatriate from Florida in the United States, stated that the oyster-shaped construction pays homage to the United Arab Emirates’ pearl-diving heritage, of which Dubai is a member.

Dubai, which will host the postponed Expo 2020 in October, reopened to travellers in July of last year and has planned one of the world’s quickest Covid-19 immunisation programmes.
