The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided to support Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, aimed at eradicating terrorism and extremism nationwide, despite some reservations. During a parliamentary party meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday, the PPP leadership and members deliberated on the operation. Sources revealed that, after thorough discussion, the party decided to back the initiative.
The PPP parliamentary party unanimously endorsed Operation Azm-e-Istehkam in Tuesday’s meeting. However, the PPP has communicated its concerns to the government regarding the operation.
Senior parliamentarian Syed Naveed Qamar also announced on Tuesday that the PPP will vote for the budget to prevent instability in the country. The Cabinet approved an increase in doctors’ allowances at Basic Health Units, Rural Health Centers, and some Tehsil Headquarters hospitals to incentivize their appointment in remote areas on a temporary basis. The Cabinet was briefed that doctors will receive a night allowance of Rs 7,000, 7,500, and 8,000, depending on the duty location, and a petrol allowance of Rs 1,000 per day for postings in remote areas.

The Provincial Cabinet approved the Punjab Sikh Anand Karaj Marriage Registrar Rules 2024 and the Punjab Sikh Anand Karaj Marriage Rules 2024. Minister for Minorities Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora briefed the Cabinet that Punjab has become the first province in the world to implement the Sikh Marriage Act. He noted that even in India, Sikhs have to register their marriages under the Hindu Act. Arora added that the Hindu Marriage Act would also be submitted for Cabinet approval in a few months.
During the four-hour-long 10th meeting of the provincial cabinet, chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, several key decisions were made. The Cabinet directed the transfer of management of TB Hospital Sargodha, Jubilee Female Hospital Bahawalpur, Mazang Hospital Lahore, and Data Darbar Eye Hospital to the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department.
Amendments to the Registration Act, 1908, were approved to facilitate the transfer of property and other revenue services for overseas Pakistanis living in eight countries. The Cabinet also agreed to gradually switch rickshaws to alternative eco-friendly transport and approved the requirement of a fitness certificate for motorcycles to help eliminate smog. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the simplification of the procedure for obtaining a motorcycle fitness certificate.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved the procedure for providing electric bikes to orphan students, with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directing the completion of the process promptly. The Cabinet also decided not to extend government house allotments to employees after their retirement.
