On July 3rd, the 5th edition of the Hum Style Awards took place. The event was maybe the first award presentation in Pakistan with an in-person audience since the Covid-19 epidemic. However, it appears that more than one thing went wrong during the occasion.

While several chastised the organisers for inviting an accused harasser to host the event, we are unsure how rigorously, if at all, SOPs were followed at the event. The most humorous aspect of the Hum Style Awards, though, was, well, the lack of style.

Female celebrities have been harshly chastised for their poor fashion choices by the audience and other celebrities on social media.

Iffat Omar retorted on Instagram, saying, “SAD BUT DEFINITELY TRUE. IT WAS DEATH OF FASHION.”

“RIP fashion sense in PAKISTAN,” said Nazish Jahangir, a female celebrity, on Instagram.

Bilal Qureshi, a male actor, posted on Instagram, “LADIES you all are beautiful & talented, so trust me you don’t have to wear revealing dresses to look Diva in any award show,” he said.

Many of our female stars, like Ayesha Omar, Alizeh Shah, Maya Ali, and Sarwat Gilani, chose a Western dress for the award event, which came as no surprise. Many of them were also chastised for not supporting local culture and for dressing like celebrities on the red carpet.

The audience’s focus, on the other hand, is more about their sense of style. While gowns and dresses may create stunning and beautiful appearances, not everyone knows how to wear them properly.

Alizeh Shah, who has previously caused quite a stir on social media with her choice of attire for various events, not only failed to wow with her outfits on awards night but also with her dancing.

Male celebrities, too, have failed to wow their admirers.

Overall, the peeks from the award night were pretty entertaining. Let’s see curious how the crowd will respond after the whole show airs.
