Italian embassy in Islamabad has 1000 Schengen visa stickers missing

At least 1,000 Schengen visa stickers are said to have been taken from the Italian Embassy locker room in the country’s federal capital, Islamabad.

According to local media reports, the Foreign Office submitted information on the theft of 1,000 Schengen visa stickers from the Italian embassy on Tuesday with the Ministry of Interior and the Federal Investigation Agency in order to take necessary action.

The embassy addressed a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 16 requesting assistance in investigating the loss of the visa stickers. It claimed that 1,000 Schengen visa stickers were taken from the embassy’s locker area and provided serial numbers for the missing stickers.

ITA 041913251 to ITA 04191400 are the serial numbers of 750 stolen Shenzhen visa stickers, while ITA 041915751 to ITA 041916000 are the serial numbers of the other 250.

It went on to say that the Italian government was undertaking internal investigations to determine who was responsible for the heist.

In response to the theft, the Foreign Office requested that the relevant authorities examine and trace these visa stickers at all entrance and departure ports, as well as notify any seizures.’

The theft of visa stickers was reported to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the foreign diplomatic mission, and the information was immediately communicated with the appropriate departments, according to FO Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri.

A Schengen visa is a short-term visa that allows travellers to visit Schengen countries for up to 90 days for vacation or business. It allows travellers from any Schengen member country to enter, freely travel within, and exit the Schengen zone. Within the Schengen Zone, there are no border restrictions.
