PM Imran Khan remarked in an interview with Jonathan Swan on “Axios on HBO,” which aired at 3 a.m. PST on Monday morning, that “if a lady wears very minimal garments, it would have an influence on the males unless they are robots.”

In his interview with Axios’ Swan, Prime Minister Khan covered a variety of topics, including the US exit from Afghanistan, the Pakistan-US relationship, Uyghur Muslims in China, and sexual assault in Pakistan.

When Swan questioned PM Khan on his past statements regarding rape and obscenity, PM Khan said that it was “such nonsense.”

“I said that the concept of purdah is avoiding temptation in society. We don’t have discos here, we don’t have nightclubs, so it is a completely different society, way of life here. So if you raise temptation in the society to the point and all these young guys have nowhere to go, it has consequences in the society.”

Swan asked: “Do you think that what women wear has any effect, that that’s part of this temptation?”

“If a woman is wearing very few clothes, it will have an impact on the men, unless they are robots. I mean it’s common sense,” replied PM.

PM Imran said, “It depends on which culture you live in.” Swan questioned if this would lead to acts of sexual assault, to which PM Khan replied, “It depends on which society you live in.” If individuals in culture have never seen something like this, it will have an influence on them. Maybe it won’t affect you if you grow up in a culture like yours. Whatever is accepted in our culture must be acceptable to everyone else, according to this cultural imperialism. It isn’t.”

“Jonathan, it’s about my society. My priority is how my society behaves, what reactions are caused in my society so when I see sex crime going through the roof, we sit down, we discuss how we are going to tackle this. It is having an impact on my society. We have to do something about it.”
