Pakistan records drop in COVID-19 cases

In a single day, Pakistan announced 1,531 coronavirus cases, the lowest number in over two months.

According to data collected from the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the third wave claimed the lives of at least 83 people, with 1,531 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours.

Pakistan performed almost 30,248 tests for the lethal virus, with a 5.06 percent positivity rate.

The country’s overall death toll from the novel virus has risen to 19,467, with Punjab reporting the highest number of deaths, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the second position.

73 of the 83 people who died from the coronavirus on Friday had been admitted to hospitals, and 36 had been on ventilators.

Meanwhile, following the government’s nationwide curfews, the number of new coronavirus cases has dropped by 61 percent from its height.

According to the available evidence, US epidemiologist Dr Fahim Younis, a fellow at the University of Maryland, shared the numbers.

In addition, 11 infections per 100,000 people have been recorded in the last few days. He recommended that Pakistan reduce the number of people infected to less than five per 100,000 and speed up the vaccination process.
