Imran Khan expresses solidarity as India faces the brunt of the pandemic

Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed sympathy with India on Saturday and wished those suffering from the novel virus a quick recovery as the world battled the deadly wave of the pandemic.

Taking to his official Twitter account, Prime Minister Imran Khan said, “I want to express our solidarity with the people of India as they battle a dangerous wave of COVID-19.”

He went on to say that our prayers for a swift recovery go out to all affected by the pandemic in our community and around the world. We must all work together to address the global crisis that society is facing.

Earlier today, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi expressed sincere condolences to the families afflicted by the novel virus in neighbouring Pakistan.

Meanwhile, India’s overnight outbreak figure was 332,730, the highest ever reported anywhere in the world since the pandemic started last year. Hospitals in New Delhi, Maharashtra, and other states are running low on oxygen, and several patients have been turned away due to a lack of accommodation.

The number of deaths in India increased by 2,624 in the last 24 hours, the highest daily average for the world so far. Crematoriums in Delhi said they were complete and asked bereaved families to wait. The 1.3 billion-person South Asian nation has now reported a total of 16.6 million cases, including 189,544 deaths.
