With India announcing a record number of novel coronavirus cases, Pakistan barred passengers from entering the country on Monday.
The decision was made by Pakistan’s highest body to oversee the COVID-19 situation, the National Command and Operation Centre, in a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar.

The ban is in effect for two weeks because India has been classified as a category “C” country due to a widespread health crisis. Passengers would be unable to reach Pakistan either by land or by air.
As it battles the virus’s second surge, India’s health ministry announced a record increase in coronavirus cases of 273,810, bringing the overall number of infections to more than 15 million.
In the last 24 hours, India has lost 1,619 people to COVID-19, bringing the overall death toll to 178,769.
Behind the United States, Brazil, and Mexico, India ranks fourth in terms of virus-related deaths.

New Delhi, India’s capital, has been put under strict lockdown for six days, beginning tonight, according to Delhi state’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who added that the healthcare system was on the verge of collapsing due to the deteriorating COVID-19 outbreak.
